Nanuet & Beyond – General $1,500 Scholarship for a June 2020 Graduating Senior
Nanuet & Beyond is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed to support and provide educational opportunities for our youth that enhance existing program experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Our mission also includes awarding an annual scholarship to a graduating high school senior to further his/her academic endeavors beyond high school whether it be in a college, university or trade school setting.
In order to be considered, the student must:
- Be a graduating senior in good standing at Nanuet High School, Clarkstown South High School, Birchwood, Albertus Magnus High School or BOCES and reside in either the Nanuet or Clarkstown school district.
- Submit a short essay on what continuing their education will mean to them personally as well as what winning the $1500 scholarship will mean to the student and/or his or her family. Additionally, the student shall incorporate a challenge they needed to overcome.
- Submit two references: one from a teacher and one from either an employer, coach, leader of an organization the student volunteers with, or a peer. No family member may submit a reference. Each reference only need be a paragraph (150 word minimum).
- List any extracurricular activities. These may include school activities (clubs, sports) out-of-school activities (citizenship/community/work).
- Provide high school transcript.
Special consideration will be given to those students with financial need.
The Nanuet & Beyond scholarship award will be judged on the following point system:
- GPA – 20 points
- Completed Application/Documentation – 10 points
- Essay – 30 points
- References – 20 points
- Activities – 20 points
A Nanuet & Beyond scholarship will be awarded annually. The application deadline is April 1st** of each year and the student awarded the scholarship will be notified by May 15th of each year. The scholarship is non-renewable.
EACH STUDENT SHALL SUBMIT TWO VERSIONS OF THEIR ESSAY: ONE WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME ON EACH PAGE—- AND ONE WITHOUT THE STUDENT’S NAME VISIBLE ANYWHERE IN THE DOCUMENT. Staple the pages of each copy together in the upper left-hand corner.
