Nanuet & Beyond – 2020 DECA Scholarship in honor of Dr. Edda Perfetto
Nanuet and Beyond, through a partial matching grant, is offering a $1000 scholarship for a graduating senior and DECA member. This scholarship is in honor of Dr. Edda Perfetto, a former Nanuet High School business teacher. The scholarship will be awarded to the winner of this essay contest. Scholarship winner will have a check made out to the school of their choice, in his/her name, to their account. Please complete all sections and submit to your guidance counselor by April 10, 2020**.

The Nanuet & Beyond scholarship award will be judged on the following point system:
- GPA – 20 points
- Completed Application/Documentation – 10 points
- Essay – 40 points
- References – 20 points
- Activities – 10 points
Special consideration will be given to those students with financial need.

Part 2: Essay
Imagine you are competing for a job as a fundraiser for Nanuet and Beyond, a relatively new charity in your Nanuet community. Each candidate is asked to submit his/her plan to help this new organization raise funds and gain community recognition and support.
Use information from the charity’s website, nanuetandbeyond.com, and research into area demographics as well as businesses to develop your plan. You should also incorporate your knowledge of the local schools. Using your creativity, your written plan should contain the following elements:
- Marketing ideas to increase awareness and gain recognition within the community.
- Several fundraising ideas that will appeal to the broader public. These ideas should also be able to gain parental and community support.
- A specific plan to garner local business, retail and/or corporate support.
Your comprehensive “plan” (essay) should be typed and should be approximately two pages (or 500 words) in length. Please include a title (centered) that is representative of your content. SUBMIT TWO VERSIONS:
- ONE WITH YOUR NAME ON EACH PAGE
- ONE WITHOUT YOUR NAME VISIBLE ANYWHERE IN THE DOCUMENT
Staple the pages of each copy together in the upper left-hand corner.
Part 3: Letters of Recommendation
Provide one (1) teacher and one (1) business community recommendation. These one-page recommendations should be from people that are familiar with your accomplishments and involvement in the business community.
Part 4: Grades
Provide your high school grades for any and all business courses that have been completed to date.
Part 5: Submission
After you have completed your part of this application and attached the appropriate documentation, submit all paperwork to your guidance counselor for certification and delivery to the Nanuet and Beyond scholarship selection committee.
